Individual Therapy in Oakland, CA
One-on-one somatic trauma therapy, in person in Oakland and online across California and Minnesota.
From the outside, you're doing fine. You show up, you get things done, and people count on you.
Inside, you're tired in a way sleep doesn't fix, and you can't remember the last time you weren't bracing for something.
Individual therapy is a place where you don't have to manage anyone else. It's one hour a week that's actually for you.
What we might work on
Trauma, whether it's one big thing or a lot of smaller things that added up
Anxiety, overwhelm, and a mind that won't switch off
Depression, or feeling numb, shut down, or far away from yourself
Burnout and the exhaustion of always being the strong one
People-pleasing, over-giving, and boundaries that don't hold
Relationships where you do all the caring
Being highly sensitive in a world that rewards toughness
How I work
Therapy with me is a relationship, not a script. I'll tell you what I notice, including the things that are hard to hear, and I'll stay while we work with them. Validation matters, but it isn't the whole job.
We talk, and we also pay attention to what's happening in your body as we do: where you tense up, where you go numb, what shifts when we get close to something hard. That's somatic therapy, and it often reaches what talking alone can't. Depending on what you need, we might also use breath, movement, or short practices from my training as a yoga therapist.
We go at your pace. Safety comes before depth, and going slowly isn't the same as going nowhere.
I also won't treat you as separate from the world you live in. Family, culture, racism, class, sexism, and the pressure of work all shape what you carry, and they belong in the room.
Meet Rachel
I'm Rachel Wilson, LCSW, C-IAYT. I've spent nearly 20 years in trauma work, starting in juvenile halls, schools, and community organizations before opening my private practice in Oakland. I'm a licensed clinical social worker and certified yoga therapist, with additional training in Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy and Somatic Attachment Therapy.
What becomes possible
You leave work at work, at least most nights.
You ask for help before you're at the end of your rope.
A hard conversation doesn't take three days to recover from.
You stop apologizing for having needs.
You feel like yourself again, not just the version of you that gets things done.
You laugh more, and it's not a performance.
